About
I’ve been playing drums for over 30 years and teaching for most of that time — privately, in studios, and in schools.
I’ve taught all sorts of people. Complete beginners, kids, adults picking it back up later on, and big groups where things can go sideways pretty quickly. In a lot of those situations, traditional drum teaching just doesn’t work very well. There’s too much information flying around, too much noise, and people get overwhelmed fast.
I’ve always struggled with academic-style learning myself. Long explanations and dense notation never really clicked with me — they just made things feel harder than they needed to be. Developing hearing loss later on only pushed that home even more.
Teaching in schools really brought it into focus. I’ve been in halls with one kit and too many students, watching people lose confidence or switch off before they’d really started. That didn’t feel like a great way to introduce anyone to music.
So I started doing things differently.
Drum Easy grew out of trying to make lessons calmer, clearer, and more practical. It’s visual, it’s hands-on, and it focuses on playing first. It works whether someone’s learning at home, in lessons, or in a classroom — especially for people who don’t get much out of traditional approaches.
I’m not trying to reinvent drumming or turn it into something clever. I just wanted a way of teaching that made sense, felt human, and helped people actually enjoy playing.
That’s what Drum Easy is.
